Boys and Girls Club
The Boys and Girls Club in Durham is a place where children can come after school to play, work, and be in the company of other children and adults. Their families usually cannot afford to pay for day care, so they would otherwise be left home alone after school. Duke Circle K visits the Boys and Girls Club every Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, from 4:15 PM - 6:00 PM. We play with the children, help them with their work, or just hang out with them. Members who go regularly often develop a special bond with some of the children, who eagerly anticipate our arrival.
Ronald McDonald House
The Ronald McDonald House gives families who have children in Duke Hospital a place to stay. It is located on Central Campus, on Alexander Dr. Every Friday at 5:00 PM, members of Duke Circle K will be cooking monthly brunches. There are often small children present, and they love the attention of young adults like ourselves. In addition, Duke Circle K usually teams up with our sponsoring Kiwanis Club to cook big holiday dinners for the residents.
Books for Africa
Bookstore not offering you much for the "used" book you never opened last semester? Have some books you no longer need or want taking up precious room? Help out Books for Africa! Books for Africa is a project dedicated to getting books and textbooks to students in Africa. We help out by collecting books at the end of every semester for this program. So if you see us tabling for this, come help us out and help get books to Africa!
Hillcrest Convalescent Nursing Home
Hillcrest Convalescent Nursing Home is located right off east campus so it's convenient for Duke students. Every Saturday from 9:30 to 11:30 in the morning, we will be hosting BINGO games as entertainment for the old folks there. If you enjoy service and spending time listening to awesome stories, then this is the right project for you! There are always some regulars who show up for BINGO so you'll really get to know everyone. Afterward, you can hang out with them and visit their rooms. They really appreciate our service and enjoy our company so come check it out!
